It would of been really interesting to watch that back 4 with our usual front 5 plus Perkins upfront. I think we would be able to get a better assetment.

I was surprised how poor Fornals was.

Perhaps it just shows how much his game depends on understandings built up with other players.

the senior players bar the keeper were just poor. vlasic especially. none of them made any claim to start in the premier league based on that.

ashby looked the only stand out player who should be on the bench at least with fredricks and jonhson both out .

the other 3 defenders grew into the game which was very pleasing.

where is dan chesters?

Reading through the comments looks like it was just me that thought Longelo was a bit shit. A few flashes of skill when he got the ball but looked a bit lost for long periods of the match. I liked Ashby. Perkins was a disappointment after nearly scoring last time out. As others have said he was too easily pushed around to be playing in that position. Certainly wasn't going to get on the end of many set pieces.

The forest and Shrewsbury cup games demonstrated that the youngsters involved were probably not going to make it at the highest level. I couldn't say that about any of them last night. We will have to wait to see which ones do.

I agree - thought it was hugely positive. My mind went to that Forest cup game when I saw all the youngsters included, but they did really well.

I would have no qualms about any of them coming in to the first team for important games based on that.

Given how well the youngsters acquitted themselves, this has got to be the most pleasing loss ever.

Unthroning the game against Sunderland after the 1980 Cup Final, which stopped Chelsea being promoted.

Most disappointing were Kral & Vlasic. I've seen nothing from either in any game they've played that suggests they will have a future here.

Totally agree Nagel - just came onto this thread to post the same thing.

Longelo looked very good and certainly better than Masuaku or Fredericks at left back.

If Johnson and Cresswell are both out I'd start him against Burnley.

Surprised that Longelo hasn't featured more for the 1st team already. He looks better as a LB than Masuaku, Johnson & Fredericks. He'll be 21 in a couple of weeks time so it's not like he's too young.

As for the two CBs, Baptiste looks to have more potential to me. Alese was more involved but his judgement and passing wasn't good. A bit too much of an if in doubt kick it out type, although maybe it was nerves. Baptiste looked more composed and assured on the ball, and he's 2 years younger.

Non-first team squad U23s have to be at the club for two years to count as home-grown.

Pity they scored in the 3rd minute as that changed the way they played certainly second half - might have been like the Alamo if the score had been the other way around and would've tested the young defenders....

Longelo was the stand out performer from the youngsters.

Perkins, isn't a striker IMO, too lightweight.

Bit of a shop window for fans to see some of the club’s younger talent. As for the lads they showed promise and doubtless if they develop some will be going out on loan in the future.

Unusual to get a chance to start so many youngsters in one game but Moyes earned that privilege by guiding us to be group winners with a game to spare.
